Page speed

The LCP card on Analytics measures page speed. How long a visitor waits before the main part of your page is on screen, in seconds. Lower is better.LCP stands for Largest Contentful Paint: the moment the largest piece of content on the screen has been drawn. It is measured in your visitors' own browsers by the tracking script, on the first page each of them loads, and shown in seconds. Lower is better, so the card's change badge turns green when the figure falls.

How the figure is summarised

The card shows the 75th percentile for the period: 75 in every hundred pageviews were at least this fast. A percentile rather than an average, so a few slow or broken readings cannot drag the figure around, and readings that are not plausible are left out. Under a visit-count filter the card falls back to a plain average.

When Load Time shows instead

If no LCP reading exists for the period, the card becomes Load Time, the older measure of how long pages took to load, and shows a dash when that is missing too.
